Cookbook Review: Vegan with a Vengeance

I picked up this book by Isa Chandra Moskowitz at my local Chapters. (Chapters, surprisingly has an excellent selection of vegan, vegetarian, raw, and local cookbooks.) I knew immediately that this book was going to be key in my journey to eat delicious meat-free meals.

I’ve made about 10 of Isa’s recipe and all of them were absolutely delicious–even to my non-vegetarian, definitely non-vegan boyfriend.

The recipes have a really hearty, homey taste to them so you really don’t miss the meat–at all. The Stewed Tofu is an excellent example of this: stewed new potatoes, tofu, and a thyme miso gravy make this dish the perfect substitution for the meat lover. And the Mushroom and Sun-dried Tomato Risotto is packed full of so many rich flavours that you’ll be coming back for seconds (I actually eat this until I feel sick!).

I’d recommend Vegan with a Vengeance to anyone who is trying to make an effort to eat more vegetables and legumes and less meat. The recipes are omnivore-friendly and easy to make (with efficient prep, of course).
